VESSELS IN PORT.

Alert, scow. Awamti, schooner. Messrs Itichardson and Co.’s Weka arrived from Napier yesterday, bringing a large general cargo, including 187276 ft of timber. She leaves for Napier this morning, taking 300 sacks grass seed; 10 tons samples, and 12 tons sundries for delivery at Wairoa on the wav down. The scow Alert sailed yesterday for Ngunguru to load for Auckland. The Canterbury Shipping Co.’s Ripple is due this morning from south, The U.S.S. Co.’s Flora, left Te Araroa on Thursday for Auckland. She was*unable to work Port Awanui. It is the intention of the company to shortly replace the Flora in the East Coast' trade with either the Kini or Kotuku. These vessels carry considerably more cargo than the Flora, but neither has any passenger accbmmbda-. tioh, being purely cargo carriers. The company has ' been -reluctantly, .compelled 'to withdraw the -passenger steamer from the Easi Coast trade, owing- to. the. very inadequate support • accorded for some years past; ' The U.S.S. Co.’s Moura arrives from southern. ports this morning, and leaves again later for Auckland. The Tuatea leaves the wharf at 6 a.m. and ■ a.m. * . - ■ '

The U.S;S. Co.’s Tarawera ■ returns from Auckland to-morrow 1 afternoon, and proceeds south during the evening. Outward passengers leave the wharf it fj p.m. (meantime). The U.S.S. Co.’s Squall was' brought alongside the wharf yesterday, having been lightened of her deck cargo by the s.s. Tuatea. She brought 319 tons of cargo for this port, including the followingl2o sash weights, 14 sacks bran, 610 bags flour, 110 sacks flottr, 10 sacks sharps, 350 cases kerosene, 446 bags sugar, 60 bags cement, 130 bundles hooks, 63 rolls paper, 180 sacks, coal, 35 cases whisky, 330 pipes, 25 hales and 40 coils wire, 1700 tiles, 53,510 ft timber, transhipments ex Tomoana, Cornwall, and Delphic. Messrs Richardson and Co.’s, Fanny is expected to arrive from Napier early next, week. The U.S.. Co.’s Kaitangata arrived at Bluff at 10 a.m. yesterday. She leaves there at 11 o’clock this morning for Oamaru, Timaru, Napier, Gisborne, ■>. and Auckland.
