TRIBUTE TO HON. R. MCKENZIE
FPer Press Association.! HOKITIKA, Sept. 11. A nugget of gold, weighing 1140 z., valued at £450, was discovered a few days ago in the Ross Goldfields claim. Two men, Sharp and Scott, were working a small piece of abandoned ground near Donnelly’s Creek, where they ?iclced up a couple of small nuggets. hey were encouraged to continue operations, when they came on a largo lump, which is about the size of a white stone turnip, containing little quartz The nugget was bought today, and it is proposed to name it after the Minister of Mines. WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. The Mayor of Ross telegraphed today to the Minister of Mines (Mr. R. McKenzie) that a gold nugget, weighin, lOOoz lOdwts had been found ra a claim adjoining the Ross Goldfields Mine. A request was made that the nugget should be named "Hon. Rody. ’ The Minister replied, falling m with the suggestion re name.
