A CHESS MATCH.
WAIROA v. GISBORNE..
Mr. J. W 7. W 7 itty received a telegram from the secretary of the Wairoa Chess Club yesterday morning, asking if the three' unfinished games in the telegraphic match last Saturday could be completed next Saturday. It was. found impossible to adopt this suggestion, as Messrs Sainsbury and Bull would not be able to be present. Mr. Witty replied offering to resign his game, but stating that the other twogames were claimed bv Gisborne, and would he sent to Wellington for adjudication. , „ „ Late last night a further telegram was received from Wairoa accepting Mr. Witty’s offer to resign, and giving up claim to the other two games. This leaves the result of the match a draw, each side scoring 2J wins. Mr. Witty intends to communicate with Wairoa this morning accepting the offer of that club, and congratulating its members upon the great improvement evidenced by their play, ,
