CLEMENTS WINS NEW ZEALAND OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.
[Per Press Association*] AUCKLAND, Sept. 14. The second day’s play of the. New Zealand goif championsliip was held in perfect weather to-day. The green was playing too fast for most of the competitors. One hundred golfers.were taking part in to-day’s events, which included the third and fourth rounds of the open championship, the first and second qualifying rounds of the amateur championship, the medal handicap, and the inter-club match. The number on the links was too great, and the consequence was that many players were unable to complete the second round owing to darkness coming on. J. Clements, the Wanganui professional, retains the title of open champion. with a four-round stroke score of 324. His play was remarkably consistent, his round being 80—82—81—' 81. J. C. Bidwell, of Wairarapa, was, second with a score of 330. F. G. Hood, Auckland professional, was third with 333, and A. Duncan, of Wellington. fourth with 335.
The morning Medal Handicap Round was won by H. Stringer (Auckland), and the afternoon round by A. M. Howden (Waitemata). The Club Match was won by the Wellington “A” team, composed of A. Duncan, J. C. Bidwell. K. Duncan, and A. J. Abbott.
