A special general meeting of the Turanganui Bowling Club is to be held at the Royal Hotel at 7.30 p.m. to-day. The Right Itov. Dr. Lenillaii, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, is expected to visit Gisborne towards the end of next month, and to administer the sacrament of confirmation in St. Mary’s Church on Sunday, October 31.

Constable M. Curtin arrived from Napier on Saturday morning in charge of the Cingalese named Manus, who will stand his trial at the Supreme Court this week on a charge of indecent assault. Another prisoner is expected to arrive from Auckland this morning.

The monument to the late Mrs. Sievwright in Peel Street was decorated yesterday with a handsome wreath of foliage and white flowers. This decoration, it is understood, was in commemoration of the granting of the Parliamentary franchise to the women of New Zealand sixteen years ago. Mrs. Sievwright took a leading part in the movement which resulted in the enfranchisement of women.

The district inspection classes for officers and non-commissioned officers of the local defence forces and for the officers of the school cadets will be held in the Garrison Hall from October Gth to 10th prox. As this is the first opportunity the school .cadets have had of attending these classes, it is anticipated that they will he largely attended. It is probable that the classes will he conducted by Colonel Baucliop, officer commanding the district. The Tuahino light has been causing some trouble, and failed to display its rays on Saturday or last night. On Saturday Mr. 'A l ien, of Messrs F. Hall: and Sons, who installed the light, went out to the Point with Mr. Town ley, Chairman of the Harbor Board, Mr. Witty, secretary, and Captain Camming. harbor master, who were making a visit for the purpose of fixing the site of the caretaker’s residence. He gave the fittings an overhaul, and at the harbormaster's suggestion made an alteration in the timing apparatus. Everything was left apparently in order, but as already stated the light failed to materialise when darkness come. Accordingly Mr. Allen paid another visit yesterday afternoon, but last night the light was again not visible. The irregularity is a serious matter, for unless promptly checked it may prove a graver menace to shipping than existed when', no light was looker] for by mariners.

Witnesses and jurors summoned for the Supremo Court to-day are required to be in attendance at the Court at 10.30 a.m.

A cribbage and euchre tourney between the members of the Gisborne Fire Brigade .and the City Band is to take place in the band-room on Thursday next. Play is to begin at 8 p.m. Mr. Carmody, formerly in charge of the Government Labor Office in Gisborne, arrived here on Saturday on business connected with the sitting of the Supreme Court. The tenth annual meeting of the Gisborne Co-operative Building Society, and also a general meeting for disposal of appropriations and other business, will bo held in Townley’s Hall next Thursday evening.

A Press Association telegram states that an ordination service was held at Napier yesterday morning, when the Right Rev. Bishop Williams ordained the Rev. W. 11. Roberts, deacon, of To Karaka, to be priest.

A Press Association telegram from Napier states that Mr. A. Dillon, M.P., lias been advised by the Minister for Public Works that the Cabinet has authorised the necessary expenditure for the completion of roads in the "Wai* nmraina block.

In the Supreme Court on Saturday, probate was granted by Mr. Justice Cooper in the following two estates:Mrs. Anno White to Harry White (Messrs Blair and Sainslmry); Dudley Charles Blackborough McKenzie to his mother (represented by Mr. Kirk).

At the Supreme Court on Saturday, Mr. Justice Cooper, who arrived in the morning from Napier, granted a petition made by Mr. G. Stock on behalf of John Coleman, for appointment as guardian ad litem for the infant children of William Toinbleson. Mr. H. M. Chovcaux, local representative of the International Correspondence Schools, is now on a visit to Gisborne. Persons wishing to become associated with the school may obtain all necessary information by sending him a post card care of the Post Office.

At the Gisborne Police Court on Saturday Bert. Barry Farley pleaded guilty to having stolen the sum of £l2 from Hugh Nicholson on September 14. The accused, who elected to be dealt with summarily, was remanded for a week for the probation officer to prepare a report.

A special meeting of the Poverty Bay Co-operative Supply Association will be held in Townley’s Hall at 8 p.m. on Friday, October Ist to consider a motion for voluntarily winding up the company. Dividends for the year ended J illy 31st last are now payable at the Association’s office.

The members of the Gisborne Orchestra; Society have celebrated the close of their recent season by being photographed in a group. They gathered for the purpose on Mr. John Townley’s lawn, courteously placed at their disposal. and the picture was taken by Mr. B. Cox.

The arrangements in connection with the annual Dominion Day church parade of the volunteer corps aro well in hand. . The parade will be held next Sunday, and all the local corps, including the school cadets, will take part. The forces parade at the Garrison Hall at 10.15 a.m., and nrooeed to church. The main body will be divided between the Holy Trinity and St. Andrew’s Churches, where the Revs. Dawson Thomas and Win. Grant will be the preachers. Captain Beero. of the Gisborne Rifles, will be in command of the parade, and he extends a cordial invitation to all veterans to be present.

A general meeting of the To Karaka Gun Club was held on Wednesday last for election of officers, etc., and resulted in the election of Mr. Owen Monckton as president, and Messrs Pattullo, Stokes, W. G. Ensor, and A. M. Lewis as vice-presidents. Mr. F. Clayton was elected captain, and Mr. 0. Sandlant vice-captain. It was arranged that the cup presented b- Mr. Monckton be shot ofF for every three months, the first competition to take place on the 23rd inst.; and that the cup become the 'property of the member who wins twice in succession or three times at intervals. The club has a large membership, and is in a very satisfactory financial position. The sittings of the Supreme Court will be opened before Mr. Justice Cooper this morning. The following additional business lias been set down. Mr. W. L. Rees has filed a notice of motion in the case of Mrs. Cooper and others v. John Coleman and others for a joinder fixing remuneration of the trustee, for direction of the trustee, and that the trustee be directed to raise money for improvements, etc. The motion is in connection with an action which commenced in 1907 of tlio executors of the estate of the late Wm. Cooper against John Coleman and_ a number of natives for transfer of sixsevenths of Paritn No. 4 block, and the report of the Registrar as to what part should he cut out for the successors of Em Poliatu. In the matter of the Nukutaurua and Moutere blocks. East Coast Commission and Lysnar, and Tarairc mid others, notice of motion to rescind or vary order made on August 24, 1909, by Mr. Justice Edwards. A meeting of the Labor Day Demonstration Committee was held on Saturday evening, there being a largo attendance of union representatives. It was stated that His "Worship the Mayor had. agreed to judge the displays in the procession, and that Mr. C. F. Lewis had consented to marshal the procession. Committees were deputed to wait on certain townsmen to seek their assistance with the sports. It was resolved that the Harbor Board and the Borough and County Councils be asked to join in the procession, also the Friendly Societies, the Fire Brigade, the local Bands, and the tradespeople generally. The secretary was instructed to approach the Borough Council with the view, of getting Labor Day proclaimed a public holiday, and tie School Committee is also to Ik; . approached re the granting of a holiday for the children. It was resolved that tenders be called for a refreshment booth on the sports grounds. \ The committee meets again next Saturday evening to arrange further details. f
