GOULBURN-SYDNEY ROAD RACE

United Press Association —Copyright (Received September 19, 5.5 p.m.) ' SYDNEY, Sept. 19. The Goulburn-Sydney road race was won by Hardy (Victoria), whose riding time Avasi 7 hours 11 minutes 30 seconds.

The opening day’s racing in connection. with the Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting took place this afternoon. The weather was fine, and the course in good order. The following are the results: Maiden Plate Handicap, 6 furlongs. —Admiral Soult 7.8, 1; Uranui 7.8, 2; Fleet Arrow 7.9, 3. Also- started: Royal (Scotland 7.10, Prince Leo 7.10, Monsieur Soult 7.10, Reka 7.8, Dainty 7.6, Fraulein 7.6, Spectre 7.5, Lady Phoebe 7.4, Sabre 7.2, Lloyds 7.2, Puss 7.0, Lady Doon 7.0. Won easily. Time, lmin 17soc.

Henderson Handicap.—Lady French 8.13, 1: Sea Elf 7.0, 2; Kareroa 8.13, 3. Also started: Tarina, Mahinga, All’s Well. Won by two lengths. Time, 49 4-ssec. Avondale Stakes, four furlongs.— Ashby 8.0, 1; King Soult S.Ct 2; Irritation 7.9, 3. Also started : Doughboy 8.0, Vivace 8.0, Echo 8.0, Solas 7.9, Blue Vale 7.9, Ventalia 7.9, Lady Obie 7.9, Zuleiman 7.9, Princess Soult 7.9, Lady Waterford 7.9, Monoplane 7.9. Won by two lengths. Time, 51sec. First Handicap Hurdles.—Newtown 9.10, 1; Commander 10.4, 2; Master Paul 9.2, 3.

Avondale Cup Handicap.—Tattoo 7.3, 1; Elysian 7.7, *2; Sedition 8.3, 3. Also started: Grenadier, Lochbuie, Ben Jonson, Sir Artegal, First Waiariki, and Lycia. At the distance Tattoo, going strongly, was just in front of Elysian, the pair fighting out a great finish under punishment, Tattoo snatching a victory by a head. Sedition was two lengths away. Time, 2min 9 4-ssec.

First Handicap Steeplechase.—Red McGregor 9.7, 1; Pierre 10.2, 2: Good Faith 9.10, 3. Also started: Tanglefoot. Red McGregor finished up easily, winning by two lengths. Time, 6min 23sec.

Plunket Handicap.—Waihuku 8.8, 1; Coromandel 8.10, 2; John 8.5, 3. Also started: Celtic, Aristocrat, Noteorini, Winhaston, and Tetrazinni. Coromandel was first away but was immediately displaced' by John at the distance. Waihuku sprang out and finishing ingood style won by four lengths. Time, lmin 30see.

Flying Stakes Handicap.—Necktie 7.4, 1; Tanekaha- 7.5, 2; Aimwell 7.4, 3. Also started: Dogger Bank, Impulsive, Jmprimus, and- Wild West. At the distance Necktie sho-t out, winning easily' by four lengths. Time, lmin 15sec.

ROSEHILL SPRING STAKES. United Press Association —CopYiunin (Received September 19, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 19. The following is the result of the Rosehill Spring Stakes: —Malt King 1, Lady Ruenalf 2, Blue Book 3. Provocation hpid the lead from the sixfurlong post, except for a brief displacement, into the straight, where the placed horses beat the New Zealander, three lengths separating the first and second horses, the latter being four lengths from the third, and Provocation a head away fourth.
