AN INTERRUPTED VOYAGE. [Per Press Association.l WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Yesterday afternoon the barque Antiope, which left Newcastle about a fortnight ago with a cargo of coal for San Francisco, arrived here. On Tuesday last, Captain Mathieson. who owns the barque, became seriously ill with hemorrhage of the stomach. He was attended to as well as possible by bis wife, but decided to make for the nearest port. The vessel remains here until the captain improves. PRIVATE RESIDENCE RAIDED. A private residence in Eva Street, off Taranaki Place, was raided by the police last night. About 30 bottles of beer and S demijohns of beer were seized and taken to Mount Cook police station, with a view to proceedings against the tenant.
A SERIOUS CHARGE. FEILDING, Sept. 20. Edward John Lower was before the court this morning charged with providing Jessie Agnes Cox with an instrument- ’knowing the same to be used for an illegal purpose. Accused was remanded till Thursday, when Cex and another will also appear in connection with the charge.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES PREVALENT.
CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 20. Owing to the prevalence of infectious diseases cases at the hospital, the Board have ordered that no children under 13 years of age will be allowed to visit the institution. SUNDAY CONCERTS BARRED. The Christchurch City Council tonight rescinded their previous _ decision allowing band concerts to be given on Sundays.
