Clemenceau s decision to put an end to public lotteries except for municipal bonds and the Credit Foncier, M. Briand has authorised a gigantic final lottery, worth £2,150,000, at tickets of 20 francs apiece. Six prizes of £40,000 will be offered. The net proceeds, £1,244,000 sterling, will be divided. Twenty-seven charities are now to be permitted to issue lotteries.
