THE SOUTH POLE.

DR. BRUCE’S EXPEDITION

Pniticd l’ai«s Association —Copyuium'i (Received September 2G, 5.5 p.m.)

LONDON, Sept. 25

Dr. Bruce is preparing a Scottish expedition to the South Pole. If £50,000 is forthcoming he will start before 1911. The expedition will consist of 36 persons, including six scientists, and will carry oceanographical equipment for 3000 fathoms. A wintering station is to be established on the coast land-,, whence a dash across the Antarctic continent will bo made, with the object of finally emerging in Ross Sea. Dr. Bruce’s theory regarding the mountain ranges suggests that the easier going on this route will compensate for the greater distance, oompdred with that of Scott’s and Shackleton’g route.
