PROJECTED AVIATION CONTEST

The Blackpool Corporation has arranged an aviation week, to begin on October 18th, and has signed contracts with Messr & Farman, Paulhan, and Rougier .and other aeronauts. FRENCH DIRIGIBLE WRECKED — FOUR LIVES LOST. (Received September 27, 1.10 a.m.) PARIS, Sept. 26.
The whole population watched the military dirigible Republique passing over Moulins, at 2o miles an hour. When nine kilometres north of the town, a blade of the propeller broke, ripping the envelope, which burst Avith a report like that of a cannon shot. The occupants .of the balloon. Captain Marshall, Lieut. Pliaul, and two assistants named Reaux and Vincent, fell 400 feet. Their mangled bodies were found in the car. The disaster has caused a sensation in Paris.
[The French military airship Republique (which Avas recently reported to bo making flights in connection with the French army manoeuvres, and dropping staff messages) had fixed vertical and horizontal planes to maintain its balance and two propellers. It carried a crew of four. The highest speed that it had attained in calm weather was 25 miles an hour.]
