Dr. Afason, late Chief lleaith Ouv-.t in New Zealand has arrived here with his wife and family. He is to be attached to the High Commissioner’s Department for twelve months. Five New Zealanders appear among those who have gained the decree or Bachelor of Aledieine. and Bachelor of Surgery, viz., H. L. Cawkwell, W. P. Chrystall, H. G. Feltham, J. M. Lawry, and W. S. Robertson.

Captain Greenstreet, the popular commodore of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s fleet, will command the now passenger Ruahine, now building on the Clyde. She is due to leave' London on November 25. Captain Smith, of the upawa, has replaced Captain Greenstreet on the Riinntaka.

She has reeently been reciting at a number of “At Homes” .in Loudon and has also appeared at a special matinee at the Bedford Theatre in."-one-act play, “The Crystal Gazer, in which her charming personality ana sympathetic acting were greatly admixttlj)r. Gossett and four other New Zealand Howlers are now on a visit hero, Messrs. AV. Dingle, F. Luscombe, C. Curtis Thompson, and Parkinson, have intimated their intention of taking rn’-t in the tournament, open to colonial howlers, for the rd.ver bowls, presented by Air. Stephen Fortesque. With the exception of Dr. Gossett, the players named are all members oi Tie Hawera Club, of Taranaki.
