POVERTY BAY CRICKET ASSO-
CIATION
The first weekly meeting of the newlyelected Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was held last evening, at the Alhambra Club rooms. Mr. It. G. Hallamoro presided. A large budget of correspondence was received and dealt with. An application fpr a match with a town eleven was received from the Waingake Club on the Saturday after tho show (October 30tk)i The request was granted, and it was also decided to play a Town v. Country match on the same date on the Tamheru ground, the secretaries of the Motu, Waikohu, Tokomaru, and Tologa Bay Clubs to be asked to forward- the names of players who would bo available to represent the country team. It was deckled to invite entries, : to close on Monday evening next, for a "junior grade competition. It wa s decided to commence the Thursday and Saturday senior competitions on the 7th and 9th of October respectively. As twelve teams will be playing in the various competitions this season, it was resolved to request permission from the Borough Council to play the junior competition on the borough reserve in Childers Road, opposite Victoria Domain; and to bring under the notice of tho Council the necessity of providing a xecreation ground on which cricket could be played. It was pointed out that if cricket continued to make the strides it had made during the past couple of seasons, Victoria Domain and Turuheru could not possibly provide sufficient grounds for the teams which • would be formed. Messrs It. Thelwall, ./. IT. Wack, and W. Gibson were appointed a Ground Committee, and Messrs It. G. liallamorc, L. McMahon, and J. Golding a Postponement Committee. It wa s arranged that the members of tne Management Committee should inspect the pitch at Victoria Domain and the borough reserve in order to be conversant with improvements required. Four applications were received for the position of groundsman, but it was decided to defer making an appointment until next Monday evening. The hon. secretary wa s instructed to request permission from the Taruheru Club to play Thursday competition matches at Taruheru until the turf wicket at tho Victoria Domain was ready for play. Entries for the various competitions, accompanied by affiliation fees, will be received next Monday tho season’s fixtures will be drawn up:
