ROWING

POVERTY BAY ROWING CLUB

A meeting of the commitjtee of tho Poverty Bay Rowing Club was held at the Cosmopolitan Club yesterday evening, Mr. J. Webb, captain, in the chair. Donations in aid of the club were received from Messrs W. Ijssant Clayton, A. deLautour, A. Dewing, and Dr. C. F. Scott.

The secretary was instructed to write to Mr. George Norton, Wellington, and order two convertible double-sculling boats.

It was reported that all the timber for the new club-house had come to hand, and that a large number of members had mustered on Saturday afternoon and had erected tho framework for the lower part of the building. It is expected that the new club-house will he ready for occupation in about a fortnight’s time. The committee decided that the crews to take part in the opening day ceremonies on Thursday afternoon should be selected this evening. The secretary stated that Mr, B. S. Cox had kindly offered to present photographs of the winning crew in the club’s trial fours. Six new members were elected.

THE GISBORNE CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held last evening, when the following new members were elected: Messrs H. T. Richmond, H. Tocker, T. Clarkson, E. Morse. T. Gibson, C. Peacockc. Bradlev, and Hudson. Mr. W. B. Miller was nominated as vice-president to the Hawke’s Bay Rowing Association, and Messrs H. Cato and A. C. Barnes delegates to represent the club on the some body. Masters Quigley and Gartshore (2) were elected coxswains to the club, -and the secretary stated that Mr. C. Buseke had again donated gold medals to be rowed for during the season. Several matters in connection with the opening of the season on Thursday were discussed. and it was decided that Mr. W. B. Miller be requested to act as marshal, instead of Mr. C. Adair who will be rowing. Arrangements are jvell in hand in connection with the Ciiib’s "Smoko ’ to he held in the Cosmopolitan Club tomorrow night. An excellent programme has been arranged, and special interest will he lent to the function by the presence of Mr. “Dick” Arnsfc, xlie clmmpion sender of the world. In addition the members of tho Uawa Rowing Club and the officers of H.M.S. Prometheus will also be present. The entertainment committee wishes members to obtain their tickers early in order to give, if possible, some indication of how many will be present.
