COUNTRY NEWS.

I’OUAWA (From Our Own Correspondent..) , The last of the lamb-marking was got through in the Valley on Saturday last, and although the tallies are hardly up to the average, yet they are nothing to complain of, the highest record being 112 per cent. The direct cause of the diminution was undoubtedly the severe weather experienced here in the first week of September, lambs suffering most severely on country with a southerly aspect. The Lambing season has nob been an ideal one. The month of August, although dry, was hardly what may bo termed seasonable, and a little more warm, showery weather would have, been preferable. There was practically no spring until' after the September rains, and, until then, hardly any spring growth. However, things have now changed for the cotter, and feed i s coming away splendidly, and stock should now do well. Messrs Cole and McDonnell have l had a considerable area of country turned over, preparing for rape and turnips. The ploughing for Mr. AlcDonnell was done by Air. Harvey, while Mr. Cole utilised his own teams.

The "W hangar a School children are anxiously looking forward to their picnic, which takes place on 9th October. Over £lO has been collected for the festivity, and no doubt there is a great day in anticipation. The collectors were Aliss Shaw, Master Tom Andrews, and Master Samuel Reid, who worked indefatigably to obtain the above results.
