RAMABAI’S MUKTI MISSION

VISIT OF THE SECRETARY FOR NEW ZEALAND. Mrs. G. McKenzie, of Queenstown, general secretary in New Zealand for the Ramabai-Mukti Mission, arrives from South by the boat this morning. The Mukti Mission is a purely undenominational evangelical Christian Mission designed to reach and help high caste Hindu widows, deserted wives and orphans from all parts of India-. It aims .at training the young women and girls sheltered in Mulcti Home, mentally, morally and spiritually. Everything is done to enlighten the women and girls who come to this home. After receiving a thorough training for some years, they go out as teachers or Bible Women to .work in different missions and many of them get married and settle happily in their own homes. At the present time some 1600 child -widows are being cared for, and brought lip to lives, of Christian usefulness., It costs about £6OO per month to provide for this large family. Mrs McKenzie visited India last year, and brougilt- back with her a large quantity, of the articles made by the girls of the mission. ' A sale of this Oriental work will he held in V liinray’s Hall on Thursday and Friday, 7th and Bth of October. The Mayoress of Gisborne (Mrs W D. Lysnar) will open the bazaar. There will be no charge for admission. To-morrow afternoon Airs McKenzie will address the St, Andrew’s Young Women’s Bible Class, and on Tuesday night will give a lecture, on the mission at St. Andrew’s Church. The lecture will be profusely illustrated by lantern slides procured from photographs obtained by Mrs. McKenzie during her visit to India. Admission will he free, and there will be a collection. The great missionary enterprise carried on under the direction of I’andita Ramabai at Mulcti, Poona district, India, is deserving of every encouragement.
