HOSPITAL SOCIAL.

THE CHILDREN’S NIGHT. i|f|§ Gay as was the scene at the Garrison Hall, on Thursday, for rvhole-kearted enjoyment the children’s dance last night quite eclipsed the revelry of the previous evening. A children’s party is essentially a happier affair than a , function for their elders. It is a momentous festival, to be looked forward to for weeks, and to be remembered for days; and it.s memories are all pleasant ones. There are no thoughts next day as to whether “he’’, meant all he said, no unpleasant calls to bfe made to find out if “she” took him seriously Or not, / and even a juvenile bilious attack dwindles to nothing in comparison with the childish appreciation of a good dance supper. Hundreds of children, of assorted shapes, size, and ages, so to speak, thronged the hall last night, and assisted by a few score of persevering and sympathetic grown-ups, had a thoroughly good tune. Alo.st of them Avere indefatigable dancers, but those whom Terpsichore had not yet claimed as devotees, Avere by no means at a loss for amusement. The slippery floor Avas made the most of, and dozens of small boys derived heaps of fun from “sledging” each other along the polish--cd boards, regardless of wear and tear. Then there was supper, and from about half-past eight to ten the youngsters were filing on and off the platform, where an array of sweets and dainties dear to the juvenile heart was spread out. Aaid as they came away from supper each took a handful of sweets for nourishment on the weary journey home.

The tables had been, tastefully decoratd by Airs. Alurray and Aliss Chrisp, Among the score of people on the platform looking after the children were the Alayoress (Airs. W. D. Lysnar), Mr. J. AY. Bright (Chairman of the Hospital Board) and Airs. Bright, Airs, J. Townley, Air. AY. A. Barton, S.M., and the Rev. L. Dawson Thomas. The refreshments, as on the previous night, were provided by the following committee of ladies-. The Alayoress, Mesdames Bright, AlattheAvs, Scott, F. Martin, Little, ’ Church, Crawford, Barton, Stevenson, Haultain, Mann, F. Parker, Catton, Lintell, Clare, Kirk, Rowley, Alisses Crawford, AlcCredie, Tucker (3), Morell, Agnew-Brown, and Cavanagb. The arranging of the dances kept the M.C.’s busy, and Alessrs T. G. Lawless, AI. Segedin, A. Sawyer, J. Colley, AY. Little, S. Spiers, C. F. Lewis, H. Witters, and Captain C. H. Evans all Avorked hard in this direction. At ten o’clock several grown-up couples t-ook the floor, and about this time, before the children left, ther must have been Avell over a thousand people in the large hall. Even Avhen the young people had gone home, a large crowd of adults remained, and dancing was kept up till a late —or rather, early—hour. The Federal Band provided an excellent musical programme, and the social wound up in a thoroughly satisfactory fashion.
