MAGISTERIAL.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1. (Before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.) ALLEGED ARSON. The youths, Thomas Francis Foster and William Patrick O’Sullivan, charged with incendiarism, were again brought up. Mr J. R Kirk appeared for Foster, and Mr G. Stock for O’Sullivan. On the application of Sergeant Hutton. a further remand was granted until next Friday. Bail in £SO each was allowed the accused. DRUNKENNESS. A deaf and dumb elderly native pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunkenness, but after the evidence of the. arresting constable and Sergeant Hutton had been taken, accused was convicted and fined 5s and costs, or 24 hours’ imprisonment. For a third conviction within six months, Henry Willoughby was sentenced to 14 days hard labor in the Napier gaol. ... On a charge of breach of prohibition order, Mr Finn appeared for Willoughby, and asked that accused be given a final chance to get away to the country. His Worship was unable to accede to counsel's request and fined uccused £lO and 2s costs, in default of immediate payment, three months’ imprisonment with hard labor in the Napier gaol, the sentence to be cumulative on that for drunkenness. A MAINTENANCE MATTER. Ernest John West was. charged with having failed to provide adequate means of support for his wife. Mr J. R. Kirk appeared for complainant, and Mr T. A. Coleman for defendant. After the circumstances of the case had been detailed to Hi s Worship, an order was made for the payment of £1 weekly, the first payment to be made next Monday.
