A curious verdict was returned on July 28 by a South Shields coroner’s jury at an inquest on Duncan McGregor, the master of the steamer Loughbrow, who was drowned on J illy 23 by falling overboard while the vessel was off Ushant. The ship left Salih on the Moroccan coast, on July 17. The captain had had some trouble with the port authorities, and, this seemed to worry him. On the night of the 22nd while in his berth he.began firing a revolver, several of the bullets coming through the cabin door, which, to protect themselves, the crew had lashed. The captain calmed down in the morning, but a,s he was leaving the bridge the vessel gave a heavy lurch and lie fell overboard and was drowned. Ho was said to he a man of temperate habits, and was quite sober at the time. The verdict was that “Death was due to immersion in the sea owing to his having overbalanced while in a state of temporary insanity, probably caused by worry.” Captain McGregor was fif»ysix years old, was married, and his home was at Middlesbrough.
