United Press Association —Copyright. (Received Oct. 3, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 2. The A.J.C. spring meeting opened to-day- in fine warm weather. There was a large attendance, 25,000 persons being present, including Lords Dudley and Chelmsford. The following were the results:— First Hurdle Race. 2 miles.—Hermes 1, Kabibino'kka 2> Lodestar 3. There were sixteen starters. The two first placed horses led all the way. Kairoma never showed in the first part of the race, and gave up at the back of the course on the last round, having been apparently interfered with. Hermes won by three lengths. Time, 3min lOlsecs. Trial Stakes, li miles. —Osiris 1, Alonobel 2, Flavel 3. Seventeen started. AVon by a neck, half a length between second -and third. Time, 2min lljsec. A.J.C. DERBY, 3000 sevs, 1J miles. Prince Foote (McCarthy) ...’ 1 Patronatus (Barden) ... 2 Danilo (Connell) ... 3 —All started with the exception of Clamour. From a good start Provocation pulling hard, was first past the stand, with Hayfield, Grist, Malt King, Gidyea. and Prince Foote in attendance. At the mile and a quarter post Provocation .and Grist were saglitly ahead of Hayfield and Prince Foote. The pace was somewhat slow. At the mile the New Zealander and Grist increased the pace, followed by Prince Foote, Alalt King, and Hayfield. At the six furlongs Patronatus went up to the leaders, and at five furlongs Prince Foote fell back to third to last. Patronatus and Grist showed the way at the halfmile, closely. followed bv Danilo, Provocation, and Prince Foote. In the straight Grist dropped back, Provocation also falling back -at the distance. A great race ensued between Danilo, Patronatus, and Malt King. Prince Foote made a fast run on the outside, cutting down the leaders, and winning, by a length and a half, threequarters of a length separating second and third. Provocation finished seventh. Time, 2min 37|see. Epsom Handicap.—Hyman (Collinan) 1. Kyeadgerie (Connelly) 2, Alaltine (Barden) 3. All the acceptors started, with the exception of Ngaruhoe and Ballantrae. Flavinius was the first to show. Parsee, Silver Hampton, Warbee. and Bright Steel were left at "the post, and spoiled any chances they might have had. At the six furlongs post Nuwara Eliya. Flavinius, Alaltine, and Golden Slimier were at the head of affairs. Achillean and Aborigine were with the next hunch. At. the home turn Nuwara Eliya still maintained the lead, with Flavinius showing out from Maltine, Hyman, and Kerlie. At the distance Hyman came up wide, fought out the battle with Kyeadgerie and Maltine, and won by a neck, a length between second and third. After the placed horses came Nuwara Eliya, Flavinius, Aborigine. Alias, Kerlie. and Golden Slipper. Time, lmin tOfs^c. Spring Stakes, 1-j miles.—Trafalgar (Barden) 1. Lord Nolan (Smith) 2, Togo (Houseman) 3. Eight started. From the mile post Linacre made the funning all the wav to the stra gilt, with Mountain King, Lord Nolan, Montcalm, and Trafalgar in attendance all the way. Once the horses were headed for home Linacre gave place to Lord Nolan, Trafalgar, and Togo. A great race resulted from the distance, where Lord Nolan was in the frontposition, but Trafalgar, with a great rush, got on terms, and after a desperate struggle boat Lord Nolan by half-a-length. Linacre was last. Maranui and Provocation did iiot start. Time, 2min 36£sec. Kensington Handicap, 7 furlongs.— Royal Blue 1, Plush 2, Grey Plume 3. Twenty Revert started. AVon by a head. Time, lmin 28£sec.
