Williamson was instantaneously killed by a chimney collapsing and falling on him. Several other men, including Superintendent Saywell, were within a few feet of the spot. The insurances are: On the building £3OOO in the Commercial Union, £3OOO in the Queensland Office; on the furniture and stock, £2BOO in the Commercial Union.

Mr. H. T. Grave, chief inspector for New Zealand, of the United Insurance Company, was present at the fire last night, ancl was an interested spectator. [The hotel just burned was built on the site of another one, also known as Hastie’s Hotel, and also destroyed by fire.j
