[Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, October 5. A Maori college was opened by the Governor at Otaki yesterday. Owing to the limited number of invitations the Maoris did not attend, but held a gathering afterwards. A short service in the open air was conducted by Bisshop Wallis, after which the Governor formally declared the buildings open for the training of Maoris in all such things as make for their well-being in body, soul, and spirit. The Native Minister telegraphed appreciation of the fresh step in advance in the education of the Maori youth, and hoped the college would prove a powerful factor in training up studentSj who would prove worthy and able citizens or the Dominion.
