LICENSING PROSECUTIONS.
A DISMISSAL AND TWO CONVICTIONS.
Mr. W. A. Barton, S,M;., delivered judgment yesterday afternoon in the case in which John A. Lucas, licensee cf the Coronation Hotel, was charged with having permitted drunkenness on his premises on the 12th ult. Mr. G. Stock represented the defendant, lib Worship dismissed the information.
In the second charge of selling liqwb to an intoxicated person, it was agreed to admit the evidence given in the previous ' case on Monday, and Mr, Stock entered a plea of guilty on behalf of his client. He could say there was no sale of liquor, but thought in view of the first judgment a small penalty would be sufficient. In imposing a fine of £3 and £1 9s 6d costs, His Worship remarked that had the barman taken proper precautions he would have noticed that' Irwin was in a state of intoxication, A fine of £3 and 7s costs was imposed on James Butler, the bar-tender, who pleaded guilty to a charge of supplying the liquor . Mr. Barton warned the defendant to be more careful in future. His Worship added that the barman at the Masonic, who had refused to serve the man, was to he commended.
