TOKOMARU FREEZING WORKS
OPERATIONS COMMENCED. Operations in connection with the erection of the Tokomaru Freezing Works commenced on Tuesday last,. The site for the manager’s house and employees’ dwellings has been selected, and a large number of men are now employed on the works. The contractors, Messrs Bull Bros., have decided not to let any sub-contracts, but to carry out the contract in its entirety, even to the victualling of the men, and a large dining hall, 90ft by 40ft, is being erected to provide seating accommodation for all the men engaged, with the necessary water and sanitary arrangements. At present the site presents the appearance of a small canvas. town, all the. men living in tents. The work in connection with the dock for lighters is progressing rapidly, 90ft of the concrete groyne having been completed. The coasting steamers Flora, Fanny and Rura, from Napier, and the Fairburn and other auxiliary schooners from Auckland have landed supplies and material, and everything necessary for the works will be landed regularly from now onward. Mr. H. J. Bull is supervising the construction works.
