The following is the Rev. 1). C. Bates’ summary and forecast: Northerly and, westerly winds .have given way to strong southerlies on all the western coast, and over most parts of the North Island during the early hours, and the weather has generally improved as the day advanced. The barometer has risen steadily in the North and slowly in the South. The. presnt indications are for a steepening of the barometric gradients, causing westerly winds generallv, and freshening shortly to a gale. South of Kawhia and Castlepoint the weather will probably he squally and changeable, particularly on the west coast.
