SALE OF WORK
The sale of Oriental work in connection with Pandita R-amabai’s mission to the child widows of India was opened by the Mayoress (Mrs. W. D. Lysnar) yesterday afternon. Mrs. AlacKenzie, organising secretary for New Zealand, and Miss Warren, the Gisborne secretary for the mission, were responsible for the transfoi mation of Whinray’s Hall, where the bazaar was held. The room was prettily decorated, and an attractive display or silks embroidery, curios, and brassware graced the stalls. There w.-re silks from China and India, brasswork from Benares, Satsuma ware from Japan, and many other attractive wares and curios from different parts of India and the East. The following ladies kindly acted as stall-holders:—Chinese stall—Mrs. R. Johnson ; lace stall —Mrs. Chas. Gray ; Japanese stall—Mrs. Paris and -Miss Booth : Cashmere stall —Miss Gorry ; fancy stall—Miss H. Morice and Miss Z. Williams ; blouses—Mesdames T ramp ton and McLelland; embroidery—Mesdames Witters and Quigley; bronze ware stall —Miss Davis; Persian and Egyptian stall—Mesdames W. Barker, J W Nolan, and Agnew-Brown; Indian stall—Mesdames Morice and Chatterton; chiokhon work stall—Mesdames Graham and Kirk. . , Numerous people visited the hall during the afternoon. The sale will be continued to-day.
