NAVY LEAGUE.
AIEETING OF COMMITTEE
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Executive of 'the local branch of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon in the Borough Council Chamber. There were present His Morship the Mayor. Messrs J. Townley. J. R, Kirk, H.'Miller. J. W. J. Preston, and F. Heron (hon. secretary). Mr. J. R. Kirk was voted to the chair. The resignation of Air. Liviek. hon. secretary (town) was accepted with regret. and on the motion of Air. H. Aliller. seconded by Air. J. AY. J. Preston, it was resolved that a letter sympathising with Air. Liviek in the loss sustainby the sad death of his father bo forwarded to him. _ On the motion of Air. J. AA . J. Preston. seconded bv Air. H. Aliller, it was resolved that Mr. C. J. Hamilton be appointed hon. treasurer. To fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Air. Liviek. His Worship the Alayor proposed, auod Air. J. Townley seconded, a resolution, which was carried unanimously, that Mr. F. C. Field v be appointed hon. secretary (town), to act in conjunction with the lion, secretary (country), Air. F. Heron.
The Bank' of Australasia- was appointed bankers for the local branch of the League. Air. J. Townley propsed. and Air. i - Heron seconded, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to His AA orship the Alavor for his kindness in entertaining the'officers of H.AI.S. Prometheus, also to the U.S.S. Co. and Air. J. W. JPreston for kindly arranging free conveyance for the children of the Gisborne schools and their teachers to and from H.AI.S. Prometheus on her recent
visit. The Chairman announced that MrC. AY. Palmer, hon. secretary of hto AYellington branch of the Navy League, proposed to visit Gisborne at an early date, and deliver a lecture, illustrated by limelight views, in the interests of the League. It was decided to leave the arrangements for the lecture in the hands of a sub-committee consisting of His Worship the Alayor. Alessrs Aliller, Kirk, and the hon. secretary.
It was proposed and carried that a grand demonstration, with a view to furthering the objects of the League* be held on Trafalgar Day (Thursday, 21st inst.). and the sub-committee set up to arrange for Air. Palmer’s lecture were detailed to organise the entertainment.
In closing the meeting, the Chairman urged on both the Executive and members of the League the extreme and Imperial importance of the League s objects, seeing that, should the Imperial navy be allowed for lack of patriotic spirit, to decrease in efficiency, our Dominion owing to its isolated position. would probably be the first of the British Imperial colonics to be assailed bv any aggressive Power. The meeting concluded with a vote or thanks to the chairman.
