AUSTRALIAN J.C. SPRING MEETING.

The weather was fine and the attendance good at the third day of the Australian Jockey Club’s spring meeting. The following were the results: High Weight Handicap, 6 furlongs. —Flavinius 10.2/1; Achillean 10.2, 2; Plush 10.3, 3. Twenty-three starters. The winner got through after passing the bend, and coming away, beat Achillean by a length, five lengths between second and third., Time, lmin 13£sec. Waverley Handicap, 1] miles.— Eric 8.4, 1; Pharos . .8, 2; Yabbagnbba 3.2, 3. Ten starters. _ Footpad made the most of the running to the half-mile, with Yabba-gabba first into the straight. Eric put in a claim after passing the distance, and won by a length. Yabba-gabba was beaten by a head. Time, 2inin 6see. Dowling Steeplechase, about 3 mile. —Squirm 11.6. 1; Saverne 10.4, 2; Heathen 9.5, 3. Seven starters. Saverne and Squirm negotiated the last fence on terms, and the latter ran home a winner by two lengths. Time, 7min 16|sec.
Members’ Handicap. 1 mile 1 furlong.—Sheen 7.12, 1: Hayfield 7.12. 3; Lady San 8.4. 3. Ton starters. PurStraw and Hayfield made the running to the straight, where Sheen came up. made a good finish, and won by a head. Three lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 53isec. Randwick Plate, 2 miles. —Trafalgar 9.0, 1; Lord Nolan 9.0, 2; Vavasor 9.0, 3. When going Trafalgar took the lead from Vavasor, Pharos, and Lord Nolan. Excepting that Trafalgar increased his lead there was little change to the six furlong post, where Lord iNolan drew within half-a-length of the leader, but Trafalgar again forged ahead, entered the straight three lengths in the lead. and. going on, won by that distance, . Vavasor six lengths away third. Time, 3min 31A sec. Final Handicap, l? r mile.—Son of the Marsh 8.11, 1; Gray Plume 7.4 % 2; Alias 7.9, 3. Twelve starters. Won by a length. Time, 2tnin s|sec —a record for the distance.
V.A.T.C. MEETING
(Received October 10, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 9. The Caulfield meeting never opened under more favorable circumstances than to-day, favored\liy brilliant sunshine, with a light breeze. The crowd was never larger, the Saturday afternoon closing being probably largely responsible for the big attendance. The course was in splendid order, and the racing good. Representatives of all the States made up the large fields. The betting ring was never busier, notwithstanding the restrictions of the Gambling Act. The following were the results : 1010 Welter, 7 furlongs —Honeymoon 1, Burton 2, Gunpowder 3. Twentyeight starters. Won by a head. Two lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 29Asec. Debutant Stakes, 4 furlongs.—Mabel 1, Baza 2, Sweat Brew 3. Nineteen starters. The winner led all the way, and won by two lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time, 50f sec. Caulfield Stakes, 9 furlongs.—Artillerie 1. Alawa 2, Post Town 3. Also started: Linacre, Knox, lolaire. Pink-
’Un, Kyeadgerie, Waipuna, Mushka, and Mother Goose. Artillerie’ led off, but soon fell back. Pink ’Un. Knox, Linacre, land Mother Geose leading the field tci the back of the course, where Pink ’Un fell back, and Knox led on the railway- ride from L ; nacre, Pin'k. ’Un, Post Town, and Artillerie, the last two being Alawa' and lolaire. Post Town led at the turn from Knox and Artillerie. but the latter going easily, won by two and a-half lengths, half-a-length between second and third. Time, lmin 56^sec. Ringwood Steeplechase, 2 miles. — Forfana 10.7. 1 ; Earl Castles 10.13, 2; Comus 9.3, 3. Also started: Larrikin, Snob, Boomerang. Harvest, Up-to-Date, and Kafir# King. A good race. Won by three-quarters of a length; a neck between second and third. Time, 3min 54|sec. Caulfield Guineas, 1 mile. —Malt King 1, Prince Foote 2. Mala 3. Also started : Master Glutton, Captain White, Sir Edwin, Sprvfoot, Sunny South, and Carman. When the horses settled down Prince Foote led by five lengths from Sunny South, the next being Mala, with Captain "White and Malt King following; There was no change until three furlongs, from home, when Malt King took charge from Captain White, Mala, and Sunny South. Malt King led into the straight. Prince Foote, making a late effort, failed, and Malt King' won by one and a-half lengths, two lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 43sec. KEMPTON PARK MEETING. LONDON, October 8. At the Kempton Park meeting the Imperial Produce Plate resulted: Neil Gow 1, Sunningdale 2, Santafina 3.
