THE WEATHER

The following is the Rev. D. C. Bates’ summary and forecast:—A high pressure has continued over the North Island but a smart fall has taken place in the South Island during the past 24 hours. Moderate westerly winds and fine weather have prevailed in the north and strong to gale from the same direction over the south. The barometer has risen slightly- at the Bluff since noon, and the winds have veered to south-west since then, but a further fall is expected, and r-’in is -probable south of Ivawhia and Castle Point, with a westerly 'gale. Unsettled weather and a falling barometer. with freshening westerlies, are probable elsewhere shortly.
