COOPER # OPERASCOPE
There was a good attendance at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening for the second night of Cooper’s Operascope season. The pictures were clearly shown and received, well merited applause. The series entitled “England’s Peril or the German Spy” was the chief attraction. This picture has evidently been adapted from the book entitled “The (Spies of the Kaiser” by William Le Queux. in which some startling statements regarding the enormous number ci German spies in England are given. Among the humorous pictures “Tommy and the Stickitite” is one of the best. Other good pictures were “The Lady's Companion” dramatic aud “Scenes in Japan” scenic. The pictures will be shown again this evening and should attract a good attendance. PATHE PICTURES. To-morrow night the Patlie Picture Company will reappear at His Majesty s Theatre with an entire change of programme. This popular management are always up-to-date and this time tlieir star picture is "Wright’s Aeroplane in Italy”, the first animated photograph taken from an aeroplane. This subject is described as sensational, marvellous and fascinating. Several splendid scenic films are included in the new programme and a very beautiful romantic episode entitled "t nited by Misfortune”. The industrial picture for this week is “A Woollen Factory in Sweden.” Other features of the programme are “Gaff, King of Detectives”, Amateur Snake Charmer,” “A Plucky Marathon Winner” and “The Castaway.” The comics are especially good this week with such as “The DareDevil Motor Car”, "The Schoolboys’ Revenge”, and “Journalistic Types.” There will be a special Matinee for children to-morrow afternoon.
GYMNASTIC AND MILITARY DISPLAY. A programme of highly attractive character has been arranged for this evening’s display in the Garrison Hall. The number of performers taking part and the varied nature of the items to be submitted should attract more than usual attention. The programme is to commence with a Grand March of all the performers, including members of: the local Volunteer Corps and the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium. A haka will then be performed by a company of Maoris, the arrangements for which have been made by Mr. C. Ferris. A series of military and gymnastic events is to follow, and during an interval a wrestling match between N. Bloomfield (Y.M.C.A.) and A. H. Westwood (Fire Brigade) will take place. The younger folk will find amusement in the antics of two clowns, who have made special preparation for tricks and comic items. The performance will take place on the floor of the* hall, with the seating arranged on three sides.
