VOLUNTEER MANOEUVRES.
SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS. [Per Press Association.} CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 14. Military manoeuvres were conducted at Yaldhurst yesterday by about 400 men of the Christchurch garrison, about 250 of whom were conveyed from the city to the scene of operations by 67 motor cars, supplied by members of ths Canterbury Automobile Association. Those not go conveyed were taken by train the greater portion of the distance, and for the remainder of the distance- by relays' of motor cars. The experiment in rapid transportation was a complete success. The idea of the manoeuvre was that a force was attacking Christchurch, and that a defendin'- force had been sent to repel them. The operations extended over a considerable area of country, and proved altogether too extensive for the time at the disposal of the troops, with the result that the operations did not develop sufficiently to enable the forces to come into contact.
