NGUNGURU BOATING FATALITY

rpr.il Press Association."! AUCKLAND, Oct. 14. Details of the boating fatality at Ngunguru show that six employees of the Kiripaka Coal Company were fishing in a small boat, which capsized. Charles Martin and A. Tickell, both recent arrivals from England, were dre ,/ned. One of the party was a strong swimmer, and placed Martin on the upturned boat three times. Another made a desperate effort to save Tickell, but had to abandon the attempt in consequence of Tickell persisting in grappling with him. A JOCKEY SUCCUMBS TO HIS INJURIES. ~NAPIER, Oct. 14, John O’Connell, jockey ,injured at the Park races yesterday, died last night at the hospital, without recovering consciousness. THE CHRISTCHURCH MOTOR FATALITY. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 14. An inquest touching the death of Capt. Pavitt was opened before Mr W. R. Haselden, coroner, to-day. W. A. Humphreys, driver of the car which collided with a tramway post and caused the death of Capt. Pavitt, stated that at first he thought the steering gear was'not working properly, but was uncertain whether the skidding was not due to a deflated tyre. He described how the accident occurred and stated that the- car was going about twenty miles an hour when it struck the pole. In cross-examination lie stated that he had four drinks of beer at Yaldhurst, but only one on the occasion of the second visit, abdut twenty minutes before leaving for town. The inquest was adjourned till to-morrow, a rabbiterTs suicide.

DUNEDIN, Oct. 14. The Alexandra South police report that Robert Nichols, a rabbiter, committed suicide at Little Valley, Galloway on. Tuesday night by cutting his throat with a. razor. The deceased has a sister residing at Caversham.
