There was bright weather with a fishtail wind, but, despite the not too favorable conditions, the SOO yards range in the last stage of the King’s match saw 9 possibles recorded, James and Hadfiekl coining within the list, Clyde 49 and King and Loved ay 48. As the outcome of . the first stage Howitt retained the lead with 2LG, Kefford (Bathurst) a point behind, while James and Hc.dfield were close up. The 900 yards range began to toll a tale. Howitt reached 255, while James, who was shooting splendidly, made 49, putting him in the lead. Kefford was third, hut Hadfield failed with 40. The 1000 yards range ended dismally for some who had done well, they being placed along with others whose chances had not given much concern. Crowds surrounded the mounds allotted to Hw. flt, James and Kefford. The possible was put up by Brians (Queensland) and brought his total equal to of James, who only put on 30. Then Howitt went to pieces, leaving Kefford ahead. Roberts (South Australia), Hill and Alexander (New South Wales), the latter but a boy, held good positions at the finish of tlie 900 yards range, .and by excellent shooting on the long range made the finish very interesting.- Roberts tied with Kefford while Alexander made 9S. The two shot off in rather hollow fashion. Kefford, who looked the cooler man of the two missed his first three shots. Roberts blazed away rapidly, scoring three inners and winning the championship. Lord Dudley was present and was keenly interested in the finish.
