BOXING.

JOHNSON DEFEATS KETCHELL.

United Press Association —Copyright. (Received October 17, 5.5 p.m.) . SAN. FRANCISCO, October 16. Johnson won on the 12th round, ftro«v. ing Ketehell out;

(Received October 17, 1.5 a.m.) SAN FRANQISCO, Oct. 17. Ketchell made ’ : a plucky fight, and showed considerable cleverness, stopping the champion’s leads. Johnson floored him in. the sixth round, but he came up smiling. In the seventh Ketchell swung a terrible left and raised a big lump on the champion’s jaw. This was the best blow of tbe fight, and the crowd cheered. The champion had the best of the next three rounds. Ketchell forced, but was unable to penetrate Johnson’s defence, and went to the corner-badly battered in the face. In the 12th Ketchell rushed the

champion, who stumbled, rose and sprang at Ketehell, catching him off his guard, planted a lefton Ketchell’s body and two rights on his head. Ketch eli was floored and counted out.

(Ketehell, the middle-weight champion, did not impress the critics very much in his recent showing against Papke,-but has a fine record. The American correspondent of the "Sydney Referee” writes: “Ketehell, since his go with Billy Papke, lias been up in the mountains of Mendocine, deerkilling, and leading the simple life. It is claimed that he put on a lot of weight while away, but I must say that I noticed no particular difference in his bulk when I saw him in this city after his return from his outing. Ketehell still looks forward to his contest with Jack Johnson in San Francisco next month, but just at present the prospect is not causing any excitement.”]
