IN BANKRUPTCY.

ESTATE OF ERNEST VERNON SWEET.

The following statement ihas been received bv the Deputy-Official Assignee, Mr. J. Coleman, from Ernest Vernon Sweet, bankrupt-:—“I started in business in Auckland on my own account on June 23rd, 1906, with a capital of £l5O cash and stock to the value of about £SO, consisting of a typewriter, office appliances, etc., taking at the time agencies such as Toledo scale (computing), and dealing in office specialities generally, and other kindred lines from time to time, my office being situated in Custom Street, Auckland. Owing to improved typewriters and scales coming on the market, I had to sell my stock at practically what I could get for it, making a considerable loss, in January, 1908, I found 1 could not go on any longer, and consequently gave up my office, sold wliat I had left, and paid wliat I received away. 1 had hoped to be able to pay off all my indebtedness in another six months or so, but having bad a judgment summons executed against me by J. M. Meredith, thought it best to take the present course, it is my intention in any case'to pay my creditors.in full. 'ldle bulk of what I at present owe has been contracted during the past eighteen months, when I. have been continually pressed. J. have no immediate, offer to make my creditors, but seeing the small amount of my present total indebtedness, have every prospect of paying -all off within the next year. I should have been entirely clear ere this but for three facts : First, I had a goe<L deal of stock and personal effects, 'including cash, in my office in the City Chambers, Auckland, which was completely gutted by fire on June 20th, 1906. * Then my father died, leaving things at home in a somewhat involved state, necessitating my assistance. Then again, on June 2nd, 1909, I was burned out at the Commercial Hotel, Waverloy, losing there cash £l7 and personal effects about £25, some of which I was compelled to replace. I have also been laid up by illness on two or three occasions in the past three years, which fact further threw me behind. I trust the creditors will allow me time in which to pay them out of my earnings, and so get the present proceedings annulled.” There were no secured creditors and no assets. The Unsecured creditors are C. E. Mausdele-y, indent agent, .Wellington, £l4; F. B. Gormley, commercial traveller, Wellington, £ll 10s; W. T. Hook, hotelkeeper, Fei’.ding, £9 10s; A. Taylor, carrier, Waver.ley, £1 7s; I. Dockray, tailor, 10s; Donald and Eastwood, cycle agents, Paliiatua, £6 10s; Mrs. j. M. Meredith, private hotelkeeper, Masterton, £8 8s; J. A. Lucas, Gisborne, £6 6s; Leighton and Sons, stationers, Auckland, £5; total, £7O 9s.
