JUDGMENT FOR COMMISSIONER OF TAXES.

The Commissioner of Taxes sued James Gower Chambers in the Magistrate’s Court for £2O, being income tax on a sum of £375 made by defendant as New Zealand representative of certain British traders. Defendant contended that neither directly nor indirectly had lie sold the goods on which, the tax was sought to be levied, nor did hej hold any money for the firms concerned, nor hold a power of attorney or authority to pay money oil their behalf. -The Magistrate held that defendant was liable, and gave, judgment for the amount claimed, with £4 4s costs.
