A WISE MEMBER
At least one of New Zealand’s Parliamentary representatives is entitled to special mention for the part he has played in the futile discussion known as the debate on the Address-in-lleply. This is Mr. J. Craigie, the gentleman who has-succeeded the iHon. W. HallJones as member for Timaru. His sole contribution to the flood of words which has deluged the .Parliamentary buildings during the past ten days was to declare the proceedings a waste of time, after which sapient declaration he promptly sat down, to make room for others who have less knowledge or less scruples concerning their mission in Parliament. Evidently" there is still a saving sense of humor existent amongst our representatives,, for we are told that Mr. Craigie’s utterance evoked applause and laughter. It is to be hoped other budding orators will take the hint and refuse to -perpetuate a debate that involves a waste of valuable time that will be sorely needed before the session closes.
