An inmate left during the month, and a hospital patient and an old age pensioner were admitted. A Coman had been housed there pending the decision of the Board. The applications for relief had not been very great, one man having been helped to the extent of 10s per week in rations, and another having been given liis fare to Auckland.

The Board resolved to allow the woman referred to to remain in the house, with a recommendation that she should assist in the sewing, and the report was adopted. , The custodian of the Home reported that there were 17 men and four women at present in the Home. The following gifts had been received: —Cakes, etc., from Hospital Social Committee and Turanga Musical Society; fish from Mr. Huston; books and reading matter from Mr. Fromm and the Public Library; and clothes from “A Friend.” On the proposition of Dr. Collins, seconded by Mr. Smith, it was resolved that the custodian of the Home should in future add to his report a statement as to the. Health of the inmates.' Tlie custodian’s report was then adopted. The Treasurer’s statement showed a credit balance of £124 14s lid. Accounts amounting to £4S6 8s 2d were passed for payment, leaving a debit balance of £361 13s 3d. The largest item for payment was the sum of £4OO for the Hospital Trustees. Mr. Kirk remarked that in the case of the woman receiving charitable aid who had been seen spending money on theatre tickets, relief had been discontinued. The woman was asked to show cause why this - course should not be taken, and her explanation failed to satisfy the Board. The ratepayers would see that the Board was prepared to look after their interests iii these matters.
