HAWKE'S BAY AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS. From the accounts giyen by Gisborne - visitors to Hastings last week, the Hawke s Bay A. and P. Show was an. unqualified success. Fine weather prevailed on the first day, and although ram was threatening on the second , day no less than 15,000 people visited the grounds. Horses were a strong, i entry, and while the class of draughts shown was superior to that seen in Gisborne, the opinion amongst local stockmen is to the effect that Gisborne can much more than hold its own in the hackney and both light and heavy harness horses. The well-known Howke’s Bay shorthorn cattle were again a feature of the show, and were much superior to those of the class hitherto"shown in Gisborne. With the exception of Jerseys the other cattle classes were a good display, and the fat cattle were said tobe the largest and best lot yet seen on the ground. There was a big falling off in the ■ sheep entries, which were over a hundred less than last year, but it is said that with the exception of English Leicesters there was no deterioration of quality, and the character of the exhibits was generally high. Thecrossbreds and fat sheep were good, but; the opinion is held that a better exhibtion of the latter will be given in ( Gisborne, while the fat lambs to bo shown in Gisborne are also said to be - better than those seen in Napier.
