FURTHER PARTICULARS OF THE CALAMITY. United Press Association —Copyright. SYDNEY, Oct, 23. Port Darwin Eastern files contain details of the typhoon at Foochow on September 15th. It was the worst for 40 years. It came without warning, doing terrible damage both ashore and afloat. Forty per cent, of the native craft was destroyed, including 50 cargo boats. The Chinese cruiser Haisclia parted her cables, drifted on the rocks, and was considerably damaged. Twenty of the crew jumpd overboard in the panic and were drowned. The river is full of dead bodies and wreckage. It is estimated that the total loss of life is 2000. A typhoon at Formosa on September 14th devastated the northern part of the island. One hundred and twelve native vessels were wrecked, and 1600 buildings destroyed. Many lives were lost. There was a second cyclone on the 18th, which swept the northern and central districts. The Tamsui river overflowed. One hundred buildings were blown down and then washed away. A great number of people were drowned or crushed to death'. The railway was seriously damaged. The cable line with Foochow was destroyed.
