ROWING

GISBORNE CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held last evening, Mr. C. J. Hamilton in the chair. The following new members were elected: Messrs A. Williams, C. W. Wright, A. Braithwaite. It w r as resolved that no boats, with the exception of pleasure boats, be allowed outside a radius of Taruheru freezing works, the island, and the flagstaff at the river entrance. It was decided to commence the races in connection with Messrs Hen~ nessy’s and Robertson’s trophies on November Bth. Messrs Curtis and Coleman were appointed the visiting committee for the ensuing week. This committee is intended to aid the management in the supervision and control of boats and crews during practice rows. Mr. G. Scott was appointed to take the crew in the B grade vice Mr. I. G. Grinlinton, who will be unable to row. POVERTY BAY CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was held last night, Mr. J. Webb, captain, presiding. A letter was received from Mr. R. S. Caulton, thanking the members for electing him a vice-president, and enclosing .a donation of £1 Is. A donation of £1 Is was also received from Mr. B. Muir, /who also accepted office as vice-president.: The, secretary was instructed to telegraph to Wellington for a number of oars required. The secretary, Mr. A. Kirk, notified the committee that the new club-house was nearly completed, and that the crews picked to compete for Mr. B. S. Cox’s prize were in active training. The
