Co.’s Squall arrived in Auckland yesterday morning. She is expected to leave there to-morrow loi Tologa and Gisborne. Messrs Common, Shelton and Company have been advised that the s.s. lonic was signalled at Hobart at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Captain Bollons, of the Government rite am er Tlinemoa, has advised the Marine Department that ho has been successful in locating a supposed rock which was reported to oxist at- the north end of Mayor Island, Bay of Plentv. The rock was found to be 500 ft long and 100 ft broad, and at low water spring tides is submerged in 12ft ~f water. The bearings of the rock trim Mavor Island have been marked, off. In a report to the Marine Do- ; n-vr tment. Captain Bollons states that’ the middle of the rock lies 22 degrees west, and seven cables away from the north end cf Mayor Island, and on the same line of bearing five cables from North Hock. Between North Bock find the sunken rock there is from nine to twelve fathoms at high water, the bottom being rocky. The roclc just located is said to be a dangerous one. The cliffs of the island are high and -nerpendicular, rising sheer from the water’s dege. The water also deepens quieklv on the north, east, and west ; >,des of the submerged rock. * BY TELEGRAPH.
