The Masterton Y.M.C.A., is in a precarious position financially, says a correspondent to the New ‘Zealand “Times.” The overdraft has readied its limit, £3OO, and the question has to be ’faced whether to raise £ISOO and enlarge the rooms or go on as at present. At a special meeting of the Association one member moved that the Association close down in three months. The following resolution was eventually carried: “That provided the active members of the Association themselves make provision for £SOO within three months, payable within a year., the Association recommend an appeal to the public to provide- the additional £IOOO essential to the completion of the extension scheme.” The Baptists of the United States, England, and America generally are promulgating a scheme by which native Hindu Christian young men. will bo educated for higher-grade preaching as well as for commercial positions. The co-operation of the New Zealand denomination is to bo soughtj and Serampore College—a one-time Danish settlement —will probably * be utilised. Largo endowments in the way of professorships and scholarships are expected.
