The consumption of beer had .decreased. ’The drinking in some districts of Ireland had declined 70 per cent., in some' parts of Scotland 50 per cent., and in Glasgow 3G per cent. He now anticipates that the consumption of spirits will decrease over 20 per cenL This, he says, may mean loss of work for a -few hundreds, hut enormously increased comforts and happiness to thousands -of homes.
