EVIDENCE WANTED.
Upon the question 01/ Civil Service control the majority of people have an open, mind, and would be- prepared, if necessity for a change were proved, to give very cordial support to what Air Herdman complacently calls “this movement of mine.” AA'ill he -prove, it—not by garrulous, irrelevancy, but by the direct methods followed by every man who wishes to reform abuse P On previous occasions we have asked Mr Herdman to come out into the ■open and state his case, if he has one, in terms that can be understood. Unfortunately, the suggestion has been without result. Now, when -protected by the privileges of Parliament, failure to respond . will not be proof of prudence but of—inability. If Air 'Herdman does not at once proceed to the proof he must not be annoyed if tho community, looks upon him as, a very toothless reformer' indeed.—Wellington “Times.”
