BOX P.UN OVER BY A TRAIN
[Pint Piikss Association.] WHANGAREI, Nov. 1. As the train was drawing in to the maip. station at 4.10 this afternoon, a High School hoy named Grigg, aged about twelve, son of the schoolmaster at Kaurihohore, fell when trying to step aboard. The wheels passed over both legs, rendering amputation necessary. The lad is in the hospital, and in a critical state.
SUDDEN DEATH iN THE STREET
BLENHEIM, Nov. 1. While the Jubilee celebrations were in full swing at one o’clock ferday, a man about 50 years of age, named Walter Fauldmg, who had been a saddler locally for many years, dropped dead in the street, the cause of death being heart disease. The deceased leaves a family.
A MIXER’S DEATH
HOKITIKA, Nov. 1. A fatal accident occurred at the Ross Goldfields, Ltd., shaft at noon. Alf. Steadman was struck on the head and killed outright, a monkey guide falling. His companion, Misson, was also injured, but not dangerously. Deceased’s wife was at the shaft with his dinner. The men were just preparing to come up when tlie accident happened.
THE HINDS RAILWAY FATALITY
ASHBURTON, Nov. 1. At the inquest touching the death of John Richards, porter who was run over at*"muds on Friday afternoon, a verdict of accidental death was returned. •
A METHYLATED SPIRIT DRINKER’S END.
An inquest was also held this morning in regard to the death of Bernard Gallagher, an old pensioner who lived by himself in the Ashburton river bed. It seems that the deceased had been in the habit of drinking methylated spirits, and on October 19th, when doing so, the spirits ignited and Gallagher was severely burned. He was taken to the hospital, where he died on Saturday. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony that death resulted from exhaustion following on delirium.
PENSIONER BURNED TO DEATH
GREYMOUTH, Nov. 1. James Snead, an old age pensioner, very deaf, was found burned to death yesterday morning, his hut having been totally destroyed.
FATALLY KICKED BY A HORSE
DUNEDIN, Nov. 1. A child named Graham, aged 2=l years, son of a farmer at Springs, Middlemarch, died yesterday as the result of injuries sustained through being kicked by a horse in a yard on Saturday.
