FIRES.

DISASTROUS BLAZE AT PAEROA.

[ Pull Puess Association. I THAMES, Nov. 2. Shortly after 5 o’clock this evening a disastrous fire occurred at Paeroa, when the sawmill of James McAndrew and Co. was burnt to the ground. The building and plant was insured in the North British and Mercantile Insurance Co. for about £3OOO. The exact amount is not- known. The secretary of the sawmilling company estimates tlie loss at about £7500, of which the stock was approximately valued at- £SOOO and the building and machinery at £2500. Forty men are thrown out of employmentThe origin of the fire, is not known, aswhen discovered by the manager (Mr. George McAndrew)' it had a firm hold. The Paeroa volunteer fire brigade rendered valuable services in saving houses, in the vicinity of the mill.
