After midnight on Tuesday, Sir W. J Steward moved that clause 35 be amended to tho effect that no appointment of any medical officer, other than an honorary medical officer, or of master, manager, or matron, shall be made until the expiration of 21 days alter the Minister has been notified of the intention to , make the anpointment. The clause originally provided for the _ appointment being made by the Minister in writing. The amendment was agreed to on the voices, and the House, rose at 12.35 a.m. > TOKOMARU FREEZING WORKS BILL. At the afternoon sitting on Wednesday, the Tokomaru Freezing Works Site Bill was read a third time and passed. THE POLICE COMMISSION. Tlie report of the Police Commission was laid on the table of the House. WIDTH OF STREETS AND ROADS. At the evening sitting Mr. McLaren moved the second reading of his Public ■Works Amendment Bill, to enable a local authority to construct a street oi* a road under the statutory width, in certain circumstances, but not less than 30 feet. Sir Joseph Ward opposed the Bill, which was referred to a special committee. MUTUAL ACCIDENT BILL. Mr. Dive moved the second reading of his Mutual Accident Bill, to enable mutual fire insurance associations to undertake insurances against accidents an.L certain other insurance risks.
