DEPUTATION TO MINISTER FOR LABOR, TPeh Press Association/] WELLINGTON, Nor. 3. A deputation from the furniture workers’ conference Ijhid before the Minister of Labor a number of matters discussed at the conference. Replying Mr Millar admitted, there was a defect in the law concerning the dismissal of a worker. He proposed to make an amendment in the Arbitration Act, laying it down that dismissal should mean absence from work for » given time, and stating a Sine a man would have to work before he was deemed' to be in employment. He was sorry to hear that the Labor Department had refused to proceed with certain cases, reported. Ho would see the chief inspector concerning the- matter. He would look into the question of registration of partnerships. . Regarding the payment of compensation for incapacity during full time as asked' by the deputation, the Minister said it was touch and go whether 1 the imported, or locally, made article would hold the market. Ninety per cent of accidents were of a nature which did not incapacitate a worker for seven days. If the suggested amendment was made premiums would go up considerably, and goods; produced would rise in price proportionately.
