BAD LANGUAGE.
EXEMPLARY FINE INFLICTED. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Charles Forbes was charged before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M., with having used obscene language within the hearing of persons passing along a public highway on October 26th. The accused is a stableman, and it was alleged that lie bad made use ol' very bad language when taking his horses out- of a paddock near Matthews’ Road. The accused pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. James Hay, storeman, gave evidence as to Forbes’ language, and handed to the Bench a slip of paper with the words alleged to have been used written down on it. •>His Worship: It is most disgusting. This sort of thing cannot be tolerated at all. I won’t allow it. _ t "j It was Forbes’ first appearance in /S Court, so ho twas fined £3, with £1 8s ; costs, with the alternative of 14 days’ imprisonment, His Worship remarking that if the accused camo up for a sim- y, ilar offence- again he would be sent to 5 ; gaol without the option of a. fine.
