SOUTH ISLAND BANDS ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. [Per Press Association.! INVERCARGILL, Nov. 4. At the annual meeting of the South Island Brass Bands Association, the balance-sheet showed the receipts to be £sl 13s 9d, and the expenditure £l2 9s Id, leaving a credit balance of £3l 4s. The report stated that 19 hands were affiliated to the Association, which was a real live one, and although in its infancy the holding of a B grade contest at Lyttelton next year was being considered. ~ A motion by. Mr. R. Galbraith,_ on behalf of the" Wellington Garrison Band, that the judge be nominated by the affiliated bands and elected by the competing bands, received no support. A remit froni the Lyttelton Marine Band proposing the deletion of the portion of rule 71, which provided that any band that- won a B grade contest be ineligible to compete in the same grade in'the ensuing year, found faver, and the affirmative was carried. It was decided that there be only one test selection for the B grade. The rule providing that members ol winning bands receive medals was deleted. The following officers were elected:— President, Dr. Thacker (Christchurch) vice-presidents, Mr. C. S. Longuet (In verc-argill). Dr. Torance (Bluff), Messn C. Allison (Christchurch), W. Willis (Dunedin), C. Cook (Lyttelton) J Craigie (Timaru), J. H. Blackwel (Kaiapoi), Dr. O. J. Russell (Christ church), R. Galbraith (Invercargill) Jno. Mill (Port Chalmers), and Hon G. Jones (Oamaru); secretary, Mr. G W. Wenner; treasurer, Mr. Hall; exe •utive, Messrs Hall, Croxford, Wright David, Callen, Sweeney, Gray, arx Blyth.
